Industry Experience Opportunities

Our Industry Experience Opportunity (IEO) programme provides a perfect way to gain vital work experience alongside a growing and recognised professional dance company.

We want to offer emerging talent the opportunity to develop dance industry skills which support their careers and expand their horizons, as well as providing some support to the core Mobius team. The framework is based around an ethos of exchange, investment in artists and teamwork.

We are offer IEO volunteer positions to emerging artists as:

  • Assistant Producer

  • Marketing Assistant

  • Technical/Production Assistant

  • Artistic Insight

  • Dance Teaching

Industry Experience Opportunity — PRODUCING

Dance Producing with Mobius Dance is a varied role, and includes elements of the following tasks:

  • Organising rehearsals, space bookings, schedules

  • Managing budgets and invoices

  • Writing funding bids, advocating for Mobius and gathering support for our work from a number of sources through networking

  • Proofing and publishing content for print/online

  • General company management and liaising/supporting all team members

  • Project planning, generating new ideas, business/strategy planning

Industry Experience Opportunity — MARKETING

 An important factor in any businesses success is effective communications. Our Marketing team at Mobius Dance work hard to make sure the work we’re doing is reaching our audiences, funders, partners, students, the public and all of our supporters. To do this we:

  • Regularly update our social media accounts with posts about our current and future activities.

  • Create content for our media channels, including photos, videos, collages and trailers

  • Keep our website up to date and ensure it’s working effectively

  • Create newsletters and content to direct email our subscribers

  • Produce print materials including brochures, flyers and posters for specific events

 Our Marketing Assistant Industry Experience Opportunity will be designed to suit the type of role you’d like to explore. What is it about a Marketing role that interests or excites you? Industry Experience Opportunity — TECHNICAL/PRODUCTION

Our touring work is programmed at venues across the North of England as well as internationally, and we rely on our back of house team to provide the technical finish to our performance work. A role on our technical/production team can include:

  • Planning a schedule of work with the Technical Manager for the required production periods

  • Work with the Technical Manager and crew on fit ups and de-rigs

  • Rigging any technical & LX equipment required for productions

  • Operation of lighting desks during the show

  • Learning about technical equipment and their operations

  • To manage lamp checks and ensure the smooth running of the show

  • To trouble-shoot any technical issues that may arise

  • To uphold the high production standards expected for the show, and the high artistic quality required by the Lighting Operator

Industry Experience Opportunity — ARTISTIC INSIGHT

Mobius Dance makes work for the stage and camera, and our dance artists lie at the heart of all that we do. We have a core team of dancers, musicians, film makers and artistic collaborators who join us project to project. We’re looking for dancers, musicians, media creatives, visual artists etc who have creative aptitude and sensitivity and maturity when working with our guest choreographers and creatives. A role as a creative with Mobius includes:

  • Taking/observing in professional classes and workshops led by the company or other practitioners

  • Responding to set tasks and creating new movement/media/audio material, as well as having strong improvisational skills and confidence to approach new tasks/ideas

  • Taking responsibility for learning and retaining movement material throughout the project to craft the work

  • Making notes and documenting the process so understudies and future performers can successfully embody the role

  • Performing their role on stage with commitment, generosity and professionalism

  • Ensuring their health and physical wellbeing is maintained

  • Teach professional class, or classes and workshops as part of our outreach programme in community settings

Our Artistic Insight Experience Opportunity will be designed to suit the type of role you’d like to explore. What is it about this role that interests or excites you? What aspects of the ‘artistic insight’ would you like to learn more about? List your top three tasks, and should you be successful we’ll use your recommendations to design a bespoke opportunity for you.


Industry Experience Opportunity — TEACHING

Mobius Dance delivers professional dance classes and workshops, schools projects and bespoke educational engagements in a wide range of settings. As part of our Business Plan, Audience Development Strategy and ambition to grow our connections across the region, we regularly open the doors to our creative journey to share our insights and learning with others. A teaching role with Mobius Dance includes:

  • Responding to bespoke briefs to create relevant, exciting and inspiring materials based on the company’s work and ethos

  • Clearly demonstrate techniques, skills and phrases for class participants

  • Make appropriate corrections to improve class participants learning

  • Create lesson plans to suit the level of each learner or group, and integrate suitable progression and modifications for added complexity or simplification

  • Ensure all sessions are inclusive for all bodies and abilities/disabilities

GUIDELINES

The programme is designed for individuals who are living, who are from or who trained in the North of England.

All applicants must be aged 18+

All IEO are voluntary, and no expenses can be paid.

Applicants must be qualified to undergraduate level or be in their third year of training. Your degree or equivalent training must be in the arts/dance/physical theatre.
