Möbius Professional Classes
Professional Classes with Möbius Dance?
Come and shake your groove with us!
Also this year, Möbius Dance will offer local, regional, national and international freelancers and students the opportunity to join company classes.
We will also continue our collaboration with ProDanceLeeds, who have programmed both our Artistic Director Gianluca Vincentini and Choreographer Jamaal Burkmar to teach a week each when Möbius is working in residence.
W/c 11 February
Jamaal's classes are music led, through improvisation and set material dancers are made to focus heavily on the quality of sound as well as the structure of different musical styles. Dancers expend a lot of energy and are challenged to change qualities at a dramatic pace and switch between both super quick and super slow movements.
W/c 18 February
Gianluca leads a contemporary release based class with emphasis on a supportive dynamic centre and the efficient use of body weight. He encourages awareness of space, suspension, vitality and embodiment whilst challenging the participants to focus on clear phrasing and specificity of movement.

EXTRA WEEK!
Gianluca will also teach company class during w/c 11 March at Yorkshire Dance - Keep an eye on our social medias for info about times and studios.
Unfortunately during this week ‘ProDanceLeeds Friends Cards’ are not accepted. You can pay £4 per a single class or sign up for a ‘Möbius Dance Class Pass’ for the week (5 classes) at £15 – Saving £5. The funds raised this week will be devoted and reinvested in Möbius Dance’s exciting future activities.
Do I need to book in advance?
Classes run on a drop-in basis, so no need to book in advance - just turn up!
Where do I pay?
We are taking payment in the studio on the day.
Can I pay by card?
Unfortunately not - the absolutely easiest for us is if you bring cash. However, you can do a bank transfer if you are able to show us on your smart phone that the payment has gone through before class.

2019 Dance Artists Team
We are very pleased to introduce you to the artistic team for Möbius Dance new creation starting in February 2019.
Our performers Ana Fernández Melero, Iolanda Portogallo, Rob Anderson and Stefania Pinato will join choreographer Douglas Thorpe and Jamaal Burkmar for the creation of an explosive, passionate and highly physical new mixed bill.

Photographic Exhibition
We are excited to announce that our Encounter Two Photographic Exhibition will be open to public from the 19th of January to the 15th of March at Opposite Café – Chapel Allerton.
This is a series of five fine art prints by Gianluca Vincentini, artistic director of Möbius Dance, Ben Lewis, digital artist, and Stefania Pinato, performer and digital assistant of Möbius Dance, featuring Benjamin Skinner, performer and illustration artist.
They have been created as part of Möbius Dance's second film project Encounter Two, which was shot at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The work explores what it means to be a man in today’s society, & why men are still discouraged from showing emotions.
Leeds Dance Partnership Award
We were delighted to be nominated for the Leeds Dance Partnership Award, as part of the first One Dance UK Awards, which gave an opportunity for people in the dance sector to acknowledge and reward the people who have made an impact over the last 12 months in the UK’s vibrant dance scene.
The Leeds Dance Partnership Award recognises and celebrates an organisation or individual who has made a significant impact to dance in the local area.
We would like to thank everyone who has nominated us.

Susanne’s classes during this week will be based on yoga and improvisation techniques. Warm up and explorations will draw from somatic and authentic movement practices using body and voice, relating to the space inside and around you and each other. The focus is on furthering your own idiosyncratic ways of moving and developing an ever-greater understanding of one’s own practice.
Gianluca leads a contemporary release based class with emphasis on a supportive dynamic centre and the efficient use of body weight. He encourages awareness of space, suspension, vitality and embodiment. Gianluca challenges dancers to focus on clear phrasing and specificity of movement.
Valentina’s class is fast paced, dynamic, energetic and athletic. Giving great emphasis to the use of breath and musicality, she challenges dancers to explore the extreme ranges of their physicality and their ability to embody intricate idiosyncratic movement material. Her class is influenced by Limon and release-based technique.
Antonio’s high-energy technical class focuses on dynamics, alignment, anatomical and spatial awareness. The dancers will explore powerful movement sequences focusing on economical use of muscle energy, training control and stability but also release and letting go.
The class aims to get the body and mind ready for rehearsal and performance, moving from fluid floor work to technical standing work, encouraging the dancers to explore all spatial levels and train both technically and artistically.
We hope to see you there!

Gianluca in Conversation with Jessica Wilson
Artistic Director Gianluca Vincentini in dialogue with Jessica Wilson for Dance Direct.
"Who or what inspired you to form Möbius Dance?
Ah! I think the inspiration has slowly built over the years. If I look back I think I will need to thank Katrín Hall first, (the former Artistic Director of Iceland Dance Company (ID), now Artistic Director of Göteborgs Operans Danskompani). Katrín gave me the chance to become Rehearsal Director for ID early in my career, believing in me as a young leader. I learned a lot from her! The other inspirations have been all the company members I have witnessed grow whilst leading VERVE for five years. Seeing them develop as artists and move audiences has no price!"
